The following is Halie's story...Told by my Sister-in-law...what an adventure it was....wish she could tell us her version...

Halie was hiking with Scott and our friend Glenn.  They left our camp at 1500 feet in the Seiad Valley and traveled up to Red Butte at 7000 feet.  Scott wasn't feeling well so he stopped for a rest and Halie went on with Glenn to look for a survey marker.  She knows Glenn well so Scott didn't have any concerns about her not staying with him.  He was checking on her and she was right with him and then he turned around and she was gone.  When he caught up with Scott again he immediately asked if Halie had come back to him and of course the answer was no.  They spent the next six hours hiking through the area looking for her with no luck.  When they came back to camp, they shared the news and of course everyone was really bummed.  We left information at the little store in Seiad.  The Pacific Crest Trail runs through this area and anyone passing through has to resupply at this store.  So we figured that if anyone saw her, this is where they would tell someone.  The people at the store were very sad for us but several felt that she would fall victim to a mountain lion within two nights because there are many up there and dogs are easy prey.  It was our feeling that she may have been bitten by a rattlesnake because it was not like her to not come when called.  We also left information with the fire crews who clear out the trails up there but really felt that she was probably gone.  Then, I get a call from a young woman who was resupplying some hikers at a place called Kangaroo Springs and she tells me that she thinks she saw our dog.  She tried to get the dog to come to her but the dog ran away.  By the time she contacted me, it had been 4 days since her sighting.  Then I contacted the forest ranger out of Happy Camp and she had even more people looking out for her.  She also said that given Halie's size most mountain lions wouldn't mess with her.  So then the next three weeks go by with no sighting of her at all and we are almost certain that she has fallen.  On the 32nd day, I get a phone message from a woman telling me that she has been on vacation, came home that day and there was a white dog in her yard and she believes it is our dog.  The people at the store told her about us and gave her the number.  She was finally able to get a picture emailed to us that night and it was her.  So, we had to wait until the following Wednesday to get her in Medford because Logan was in Astoria.  I went down on Wednesday morning and met this wonderful woman who had been taking care of her.  These people were so nice and helpful and really went out of their way to help us get reunited with Halie.

I took Halie to the vet after I got her home just to get a once over and he was very impressed.  The only problem was her weight loss which was 20lbs.  Otherwise, she was in excellent condition.  Since then she has gained back probably 10lbs and looks great.  She actually seems calmer and has more confidence than before, imagine that!?! :)

So that is it in a nutshell.  We had many people who tried to help reunite us with her earlier but those attempts failed.  We are so thankful though for the thoughtfulness of so many people.  We still can't believe she is home.

here is the picture they sent....from the people that found her..
