Grooming a Spinone....yes, grooming is necessary...some require more than others....The following is a list of items that will make your life a bit easier......
I'm not going to tell you "how to groom" your Spinone....everyone has their own preferences....therefore, this is simply a list of items that will aid in grooming....
This is a Mars Coat King, a
fabulous tool, makes life much easier....gets out the mats and does a good job
of "stripping out the dog" I have a #12.
Scissors are great to get
the hair between the toes & feet area, if you don't show your dog, it's
perfectly "ok" to use scissors on your dog....in the corner of the eye area, if
you aren't good at pulling it out....and the look "you" prefer....because let's
be honest....everyone has their preferences.....
Some sort of nail clippers will be
essential in the grooming process...
A "slicker brush" is a good item
to own, to brush them out with....
"Strippers" also make life a tad bit
easier, unless you prefer to hand strip.....
Thinning shears,..... well what
do you think they are for?
Undercoat rake, is another nice
tool, as you will find Spinone tend to have different coats....and some tools
work better than others depending on the coat......
I will suggest that you start when they are young, get them used to "grooming time" a grooming table helps keep them a little more stationary. Keep their ears cleaned out, if they are extremely hairy, you'll want to pull that out. (carefully). Try not to bathe them "too often". Although you may need to "tend" to their beard more often. That will depend on what you prefer... and what they get into... They have a great ability to "shed dirt" while that might not sound good....it is. Keep their nails trimmed.
Happy Grooming!
